Meet... the Monster!

Amanda Dalton

History: In 18th Century Salem, Massachusetts, Amanda Dalton arrived in town and set up a seamstress shop. One day, she saw a mob of superstitious townspeople driving a woman out of town, accusing her of being a witch. Amanda met John Redmond, and the two fell in love. The two were seen by John's former love, Evelyn. In jelousy, Evelyn accused Amanda before a mob of being a witch, saying she saw Amanda performing mystical rites and blamed her for ship wrecks, crop failures, and sickness outbreaks. John jumped in to defend Amanda, telling the people that Evelyn was lying out of jelousy and that her lies never would have worked if the people of Salem weren't backward enough to still believe in witches. The crowd left in shame. John proposed marriage to Amanda, but she tearfully declined, saying that they never could find happiness together. Weeks later, a confused and heartbroken John left Salem. Amanda left as well, flying off on a broomstick.

Height: 5 ft. 4 in.

I've caused ENOUGH trouble around here!

Demonstrated Powers: Amanda Dalton was apparently a witch. She only demonstrated the power to fly on a broomstick. It is unknown what other powers she may have had.

Comment: It is possible that Amanda Dalton left Salem, Massachusetts, and moved to New Salem, Colorado, a city that was a refuge for witches, located in the Colorado Rockies (introduced in Fantastic Four # 185).

Comment: It is possible that Amanda Dalton was the witch who was hunted by Inspector Koraz.

Comment: A similar story can be found in Amazing Adult Fantasy # 7, “Witch Hunt” art by Steve Ditko - Two centuries ago in Salem, Sarah is falsely accused of being a witch. She is defended by Ben. Later, when Sarah is injured, Ben leaves to get a doctor by flying on a tree branch, thus revealing himself to be a witch.

What can I say? The Kirby Babes were always the best. They looked good, and looked strong with it. And yes, Im sure it was Amanda who finally found happiness with Koraz in the other story. It made a perfect two part story.
