John Fox

History: In the “future” year 2000 A.D., criminal John Fox was put on trial and sentenced to the Conditioning Room. The machinery in the room placed Fox into a virtual-reality existance where he thought that he had escaped imprisonment, stole a spaceship, and flew off to the asteroid belt, where he landed on asteroid Vestas 203. Fox eventually became part of the uranium mining colony on Vestas 203, where he found happiness and contentment as a useful and hard-working citizen. Fox never knew that all of this was part of his rehabilitation process: being scientifically induced to “live” in a dream-state as an honest and productive member of society while all along he was merely sleeping in the Conditioning Room.

Height: 5 ft. 10 in.
Demonstrated Powers: John Fox was a normal human being who had committed unspecified crimes, but was a strong and rugged individual with good survival skills.

Comment: A similar story to this was later done in Amazing Adult Fantasy # 11,
“For the Rest of Your Life” (art by Steve Ditko), wherein a convict in some future time-period is hypnotized to believe that he has escaped from his prison cell and has his freedom, thus explaining the reason why prisoners in the future were so happy while serving their prison terms.

Comment: Prisoner John Fox should not be confused with the John Fox of the DC Comics Universe, who is a future version of the Flash.
