Mister Gregory

History: Sometime in the 19th Century, the greedy Lucius P. Gregory made his fortune as a home builder, but was infamous for the cheap, shoddy workmanship of his houses. One day, Gregory had a house built for himself. Upon completion, the house showed signs of being haunted (unearthly shrieks, doors opening by themselves). Gregory tried a variety of supernatural ceremonies to drive the spirit away, but all attempts failed as Gregory was attacked by floating furniture. Gregory planned to spend all of his money to have the entire house moved away from the ghost, but he never realized that the house itself was really the ghost, as it was made from the wood of haunted trees.

Height: 5 ft. 8 in.
Demonstrated Powers: Mister Gregory was an ordinary human with no real talent for supernatural powers.

I remember reading this story as a boy reprinted in Fear # 4.
It was a great story. It had justice, poetic irony, and a few great plot twists.

bob……….this WAS a great story,FANTASY MASTERPIECES #5 was one of my first comics,(as i was hunting down #'s 10 and 11)what made it memorable was how the villain/hero brought about his own downfall……''i spent a fortune building that house and im not going to let any blamed ghost take it over,ill drive him out!!!,somehow..someday'',also i have a theory,perhaps the ''HOUSE OF SHADOWS''of DR. STRANGE fame was the same house as gregorys,or perhaps,the ''haunted''trees were made from a race of tree-aliens(i.e.GROOT,MOOMBA)or from the guy who became a wooden-statue in TALES TO ASTONISH#13,still,the best marvel ghost yarn is ''THE GHOST RODE A ROLLER-COASTER''i could really relate to it…..

Dear Editor,
If Immortus could bring back this guy for a follow up story that would be great.
I would like to see him come back as a ” Ghost Buster ” working out side of the conventional time stream.
