Meet... the Monster!

Pan

History: Pan was a satyr (half man/half goat) god of the shepherds, flocks, and forests. Over the centuries, Pan helped out his fellow gods and worshippers with his feats of magical transformation. One day, Norman and his girlfriend, Diane, were at an art museum when Norman mocked a painting of Pan. The mischievous Pan came to Earth in the form of a museum security guard and punished Norman for scoffing him by making Norman's moustache disappear and giving him a crew-cut.

Height: 5 ft. 6 in.
Demonstrated Powers: A diety of the Greek pantheon of gods, Pan had the power of material transformation (i.e. changing a spear into flowers).

Comment: The Greek gods next appeared in Journey Into Mystery Annual # 1, where the Norse thunder-god Thor travelled to Mount Olympus.
The god Dionysus can be seen in both the above mentioned “Pan” story and the Journey Into Mystery Annual # 1 story.

Comment: Another Pan story can be seen in Tales to Astonish # 36, “The Search for Pan” by Steve Ditko.

Comment: Satyr creatures were first seen in Tales to Astonish # 1, “I Know the Secret of the Poltergeist!” by Steve Ditko. Possible connection to Pan?

Comment: There is no known connection between Pan and the satyr-like Changeling known as Woodgod (introduced in Marvel Premiere # 31).

Can A Comment Save the World?!?

I once had a dream of sleeping in a cave and being awakened by someone poking his flute in my eye. Outraged at being awakened in such a manner, I pursued the unknown intruder like an angry lion to the opening of my cave, only to see Pan tease me by blowing a few notes and then take off running. Upon leaving the darkness of my cave I immediatedly noticed that I was a man and not a lion as I had supposed.

As I recall, Satyrs also existed in the Hyborian Age, as seen around Savage Sword of Conan#50's adaptation of Conan the Liberator. Also, I think in Marvel Feature#1, Red Sonja encountered Satyr-esque beings.

The Gargoyle referred to himself as “the son of Pan” but I suspect he intended that symbolically.

a very simple moral lesson was taught in this story, he who scoffs may stay to pray..or at least
contemplate and ask for forgiveness.

Captain Marvel vol.1#60(1/79) has a satyr like Titanian-Eternal created by Isaac in the Life-Baths, called Dionysus who has pipes hanging around his neck and is immune to the ged wine he drinks. He is accompanied by Sprites.

First before some idiot censored me(because all my Emails to Monster Blog contain Top Secret stuff),I was trying to tell you that Dionysus is immune to the ged wine he drinks.Marvel Two-In-One#44(10/78)has a 3 giants who come from a shining star in the Olympos(greek spelling)dimension;the took control of Olympos while the Gods slept off the fruits of the Spring Festivals;Manduu the merciless was a goat/ram-headed satyr-like giant with a tail who wielded a wooden club with 2 spikes on each side;Y'androgg was a bull-headed giant with hooves and a tail;and Krokarr the cruel was a giant wingless man-griffin(eagle head, lion body and tail)who used sinister sorceries to constrict Zeus's power(Zeus froze him in ice).
