The Alien Gladiator
History: The unnamed alien gladiator first appeared at the United Nations Building, telling of a coming invasion by his people, but the invasion would be called off if one human could beat him in any physical or mental challenge. The alien bested human challengers in wrestling, baseball, weight-lifting, golf, mountain-climbing, animal-training, swimming, and chess. The gladiator was finally beaten by Frank Taylor, a man who outsmarted him by telling him he was a champion sleeper, that he once slept for one million years. The alien accepted the challenge, telling the man he would outdo him by sleeping for two million years. The alien went into a cave to fall asleep. A military guard was stationed at the mouth of the cave to make sure no one would ever disturb the alien.
Height: 7 ft. 6 in.
Demonstrated Powers: The Alien Gladiator was the physical and mental superior to humans in many areas of skill, able to take on several opponents at once.

While the “physical and mental superior to humans” he was still incredibly naive.

Looking at this alien I have to wonder if this inspired the look of Erick Larsen's Savage Dragon? I remember the story little..it was so long ago. I can't forget that spash page. I did see this in a reprint.
Kirby probably drew this story in about a day. It's facinating to see how short the page counts were for these stories. Some of them are only about six pages. The larger ones around 13.

The Alien Gladiator/Alien Chamion would have made a much better Champion Of The Universe (Marvel Two-In-One Annual#7(1982) and his People could be members of conquered alien races. He looks a lot better than Ron Wilson's creation.
