Meet... the Monster!

The Dragon

History: A father and his son, Tommy, went to the zoo one Sunday morning. Tommy was fascinated by his book, “When Knights Were Bold”, which pictured a knight slaying a dragon. The father told Tommy that dragons were not real, only legends made up by superstitious people. The two walked into a fog bank, and the father found himself transported through time to Camelot. He found a group of knights injured by a cornered dragon. Thinking that all of this was a dream, the father borrowed a suit of armour and killed the dragon. The father changed back into his regular clothes, and walked back into the fog. He emerged next to Tommy. The father looked in Tommy's book, and saw his own face on the picture of the knight that slayed the dragon.

Length: 30 ft. (head to tail)
Demonstrated Powers: The Dragon could breathe fire from its mouth.

Comment: It is possible that The Dragon could have been one of the survivors of the Makluan spacecraft which crashed in China in ancient times (see Fin Fang Foom).

Comment: The concept of travelling through time while walking through a mysterious fog bank was also used in the stories of The Twilight World and “The Madness” (see The Asylum Keeper)

Comment: Speculation - In Strange Tales # 134, the time-travelling Kang the Conqueror went back in time to take over Camelot, and the Watcher sent the Thing and the Human Torch of the Fantastic Four to fight him. Years later, Iron Man and Doctor Doom travelled back in time to Camelot in Iron Man #'s 149 and 150. Perhaps all of this time travel opened up the warp in time which the father stepped through.
