The Miracle Man’s Monster
History: Originally a wood and plaster statue used to advertise the movie “The Monster From Mars” at the Bijou movie theater, this movie prop was brought to “life” by the stage magician known as The Miracle Man. The Miracle Man animated the monster to use in his theft of the U.S. Army's atomic tank from a military base, but his plans were foiled by the Fantastic Four's Human Torch, who used his flame to destroy the statue. It was revealed that the Miracle Man was a master hypnotist who used his mesmerism to create the illusion that the statue could move.
Height: 50 ft.
Demonstrated Powers: The Monster was shown crushing a car.
Comment: In the flashback story, art by John Buscema, the Monster had no resemblence to his original appearance.
Comment: If the Monster statue's mobility was only an hypnotic illusion, how did it get from the movie theater to the military base?
Speculation: In Fantastic Four # 138, the Miracle Man returned to battle the FF after he learned the secrets of animating matter from elders of the Cheemuzwa Indian tribe. Perhaps he had this ability all along but had exhausted himself in actually animating the Monster statue. The tribal elders helped him in regaining this power.

The Miracle Man`s Monster was an awsome Kirby monster even though he was made out of wood and plaster. Very detailed and unique. I remember when F.F. #3 came out and I saw it for the first time I ended up drawing it. ( on a piece of 81/2 ” x11” typing paper ) I drew it much larger than it was in the comic book, still have it today, though the paper has yellowed over the years. Even today the M.M. Monster still looks like he could hold his own.

I was impressed with this story. I had read the return of The Miracle Man prior to reading the original. In the sequel he had acquired powers from an indian tribe's elders.
The original story with its' monster was very good.

A green-skinned version of the Miracle Man's Monster can be found in Fantastic Four:The End#5(2007)as one of the Moleman's Monsters;perhaps the movie monster was based on a real creature.

Doctor Schreiber?

Yes Doctor Schreiber[Marvel:The Lost Generation#2(1/01)] does have a close resemblance to the Moleman's/Miracle Man's Monster, except Dr.Schreiber has no fin on his head.I should have said, perhaps the movie monster was based on a Real monster—the one seen in Fantastic Four:The End#5(4/07) page 3 panel 2. In Amazing Spider-Man vol.1#2(5/63) the “aliens” in the Tinkerer story were originally real and they must have been based on real aliens [The Life Of Captain Marvel#2(9/85) page 26 panel 2 [reprinting Captain Marvel vol.1#27(7/73)];The Life Of Captain Marvel #4(11/85) page 29 panel 5; and The Offical Handbook Of The Marvel Universe Deluxe Edition#8(7/86) under Mentor—page 42].I don't see Thanos having a hoax alien as one of his Thralls.Perhaps all or most of those other hoaxes are based on real beings.
