The Things on Easter Island
History: On Easter Island, four stone-like aliens were apparently buried up to their necks centuries ago and were in a state of hibernation awaiting a signal. Roused by a pilot who crash-landed his plane on the island, the four aliens dug themselves out of the ground. Overhearing the aliens plans for invasion, the pilot escaped to warn mankind. When no one believed his story, the pilot wrote the whole incident off as an hallucination; the aliens, spying on the pilot, saw this and returned to the island to once again await the signal.
In modern times, Thor, the Norse thunder god, battled four animated statues on Easter Island (blaming Loki's sorcerey for the statues animation) and used his hammer to drive all four back into the ground; although it was never confirmed that these statues were the same Things, it seemed too coincidental for them not to be (four statues, Easter Island) (Possibly done as an in-joke reference to Thor and Thorr/Thorg).
Height: 50 ft.
Demonstrated Powers: The Things were strong enough to dig themselves out of tons of earth. No other special powers were demonstrated.
Comment: Speculation - Although there is no proof of any relation between Thorr, the Things, and the Stone Giants, perhaps their similarities can be explained by theorizing that they were all part of the same invasion force. Thorr and the Stone Giants never specified where they were from, so it is possible that they all came from the Things' home world of Lithodia Rex.
It is unknown if there is any connection with The Stone Men from Saturn who fought Thor in Journey into Mystery # 83; the Stone Men were smaller in size but had a similar appearance.
And while we're on the topic, Kirby also did a story for DC comics in 1959 (The Stone Sentinels of Giant Island in House of Mystery # 85 (reprinted in DC Special # 11) which used similar looking characters as the above stories; Kirby would later do a similar cover for Super Powers (second series) # 3 in 1985.

i really believe aliens were involved with easter islands. i'm not sure if they did it themselves or they gave us the knowledge to make them, but i pretty sure they were involved. there's no way humans could make such incredible monuments, even the pyramids and stonehenge seem to have alien connections
